About Us
The Rochester Fencing Club has a record of competitive achievement producing National, Collegiate, World and Olympic Champions. More specifically, the RFC has qualified five members to the 1996 Olympics, four to the 2000 Olympics, one to the 2008 Olympics, has produced two World Champions, and placed many fencers on World Championship teams. Our fencers have also won numerous team and individual National Championships.
HISTORY
The original Rochester Fencing Centre was established in mid-town Rochester circa 1981 and then moved to its present location on 777 Culver Road with an expansion in 1991. The club name was changed to Rochester Fencing Club (“RFC”) in 2000 when it changed ownership to Mrs. Susan Clinton. Most recently in August of 2009, Olympians and Rochesterians Felicia and Iris Zimmermann purchased the Rochester Fencing Club from Mrs. Clinton.
Felicia and Iris Zimmermann both grew up in Rush, NY and attended the Rochester Fencing Club growing up. Their experience at the club put Felicia on two Olympic teams ’96 and ’00 and put Iris on the ’00 team with her sister. Through their fencing accomplishments they both earned a full-athletic scholarship to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. (This year Iris was appointed the President of the Stanford Fencing Association.)
The Zimmermann sisters ultimately took the step from fencing stars to fencing club owners because they wanted to give back to the community that gave so much to them. Each kid that comes through the program doesn’t have to be an Olympian but if they try their best they become champions in their own right.
We would love to meet you. Please come by the club and see what fencing can do for you!
